ON THIS BLOG, I have written repeatedly about the influences of French culture I have observed in Turkey, especially the presence of pâtisseries in Istanbul, culinary similarities, and the adoption of certain French expressions into everyday Turkish. But I was not expecting to see an equally-present influence of Turkish culture on French society. Imagine my surprise when I saw this restaurant while walking down a street in Paris:
All throughout Paris, I came across restaurants featuring Turkish cuisine:
And finally, my friend Delphine’s cat, Willie, who lived in Istanbul for the first part of his life but now resides in Paris:
Just more affirmation of the fluidity of culture and the artificiality of borders.
